Carpet Stretching & Re-Stretching in Fort Lauderdale

From Victoria Park to Rio Vista, we get calls from Fort Lauderdale homeowners whose carpet has started to ripple, bubble or buckle. The good news is that loose carpet almost never needs replacing. A proper power stretch makes it lie flat and tight again.

Signs your Fort Lauderdale carpet needs carpet stretching

When carpet is installed correctly it's stretched tight and hooked onto tack strip along every wall. Over time it can relax, especially when heavy furniture gets dragged, when padding breaks down, or when the original installer didn't stretch the carpet far enough. The result is the rippling, buckling and wrinkling that keeps coming back.

In Fort Lauderdale condos, carpet is usually stretched over a concrete slab, and units that sit closed for part of the year can see the carpet relax and bubble when humidity changes. Near the water in Fort Lauderdale, humid air makes carpet more likely to relax, so a proper power stretch matters even more. In Fort Lauderdale's older homes, aging tack strip and worn padding often let carpet loosen, so we check both before stretching.

How we do it

We lift the carpet at the walls, check the tack strip and pad, and replace anything that won't hold. Then the carpet is power-stretched, trimmed and reset at the baseboards. Furniture is moved back carefully so the work stays tight.

Fort Lauderdale homes and carpet

Fort Lauderdale's housing changes block by block. There are 1940s and '50s cottages in Sailboat Bend and Victoria Park, canal-front homes in Rio Vista, Coral Ridge and Harbor Beach, and high-rise condos along Las Olas, in Flagler Village and up Galt Ocean Mile. We repair carpet in all of them, from a single bedroom in a waterfront house to the hallways of a condo unit.

Many Fort Lauderdale condos have carpet over concrete in bedrooms, with tile or marble in the living areas, so the carpet-to-stone transitions get heavy wear. Older single-family homes near downtown were often re-carpeted over the decades, and stretched carpet can loosen when tack strip in an old slab doesn't hold.

Local tip: Fort Lauderdale high-rises usually require contractors to reserve the service elevator and work set hours. Tell us your building's rules when you book and we'll schedule around them.

Common questions

Will my carpet look the same afterwards?

Restretching removes the ripples and humps so the carpet lies flat. It doesn't change color or wear, but a flat carpet makes the whole room look better.

Can't I just kick the ripple flat myself?

A knee kicker can push a ripple toward the wall, but in a full room it usually comes back. A power stretcher pulls evenly across the whole room, which is what keeps it flat.
